ABOUT Cassandra

Cassandra Jarvis is a Toronto-based lawyer and consultant who provides support to a diverse array of clients on matters relating to labour, employment and human rights law.

Prior to graduating from Osgoode Hall Law School, Cassandra earned her B.A. (Hons) from York University and her M.A. from the University of Toronto, both in English Literature. Her strengths in research and interpretation help her clients understand complex issues and to develop their positions with confidence, while her combined legal experience and formal training in language and linguistics help them to communicate their ideas with clarity and precision.

Cassandra began practising law at a large management-side labour and employment firm, and later practised at union-side firm. Her experience gives her the advantage of insight into how both sides of the employment relationship operate and approach workplace-related issues. She has served clients in Ontario and other provinces, and has experience with litigation and preparing legal submissions in numerous forums such as labour arbitration, human rights tribunals, labour relations boards, provincial courts, and the Supreme Court of Canada.

In addition to private practice, Cassandra has also spent time working in public law. She acted as a fact-checker for Commission Counsel on the Ottawa Light Rail Transit Public Inquiry, and as part of her law degree she completed an internship at the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, Switzerland.

Both in and outside of her work, Cassandra maintains a deep commitment to human rights, including social equity and access to justice. She approaches problems with an interdisciplinary and multi-faceted approach in order to truly understand the issues, and to find solutions that maximize results for interested parties while minimizing unwanted or unanticipated collateral effects both immediately and in the future.
